The Silva Navigation School offers comprehensive navigation training for those who want to learn effective map and compass skills, whatever their outdoor sport. The courses are run throughout the year and are based in the Peak District village of Tideswell.

We follow the syllabus of the National Navigation Award Scheme although we do adapt the content of course to give you as broad an experience as possible.

The Silva Navigation School is run by expert navigator and author Pete Hawkins. Pete has been teaching navigation courses for over twenty-five years and has written three books on the subject. He has also written numerous magazine articles over the years on the subject. The books have all become popular choices for navigators of all standards and from a variety of outdoor sports.
