Description

Learning effective map and compass skills is important if you want to safely enjoy a walk. These one-day introductory map and compass courses are ideal to brush up old rusty skills or to give you the fundamentals of better navigation. This hands-on course will follow elements of the National Navigation Award Scheme’s Bronze award but will be uncertificated.

This one day map and compass course will cover some of the key elements of map reading and briefly introduce you to the compass. Being a practical day, we’ll spend it entirely outdoors and walk around ten miles during the day.

All you’ll need for the day is your regular walking kit, food and drink for the day and an OL24 White Peak map, or an OL1 Dark Peak Map (depending on location) and a compass – these can be loaned for the day if required (please ask in advance).  The Silva Navigation School will advise you prior to the course what you need to bring.

This course is ideally suited to the beginner who is looking for greater confidence in the countryside but who doesn’t have the time to devote to a whole weekend course.
